“…forget not all God’s benefits.” —Psalm 103:2
a vine—
red leaves
tremble
a wire—
two crows
snicker
lavender floret—
purple scent
clings to my fingers
damp drizzle—
magenta dahlias
stretch petals to catch rain
saffron, crimson, scarlet—
fallen leaves
carpet sidewalk
a single motion—
knees, hips, back
bend, arms
scoop, lift, toss
dying leaves
flutter down
kiss my face
blaze brightness
against the gray

I’m grateful for this poem and its gentle call to pay attention.
Thank you, Susan. You’re one of the people who taught me to pay attention. You know that, right?
Alex’s patient teachers, because he has been a mean kid for most of the week. I love medication changes–NOT! Still, they are really wonderful women and I am very thankful for them and pray for them frequently, if not daily.
Sarah, I am so grateful you have these patient women in your life, too. And grateful for medication, too, even if it’s painful in the short term. Praying things even out soon, friend.
My pot of left-over chili isn’t gorgeous, but my encouraging friend who shares it with me for a rainy day lunch is beautiful. Thank you God, for the roof over my head, central heating, abundant left overs, and precious friends.
Oh Bobbi, yes and amen. Thank you for sharing this prayer, reminding me of the gift of my friendships: I just had breakfast with two dear friends; such a gift, these women.
A hummingbird close by in the garden while a great blue heron swirled by gracefully overhead.
Oh, Diana, what a beautiful picture these two images paint. Two birds, near and far, small and large, spinning and gliding: I love the many juxtapositions here. Thank you for sharing your birds with me.
